Giving Veterans a lift

83 year old John Comley did his National Service with the REME. Unfortunately
John was involved in a serious motorcycle accident many years ago which left him
with a damaged right arm and right knee.

John lives a very independent life but the years have taken their toll on
John’s knee and he now struggles to get in and out of the bath. He made
enquiries with his local council as well as 2 organisations that help the
elderly and Veterans but was told that he is ‘not disabled enough’ to get the
help he needs. In steps The Veterans Charity.

After only meeting John at the beginning of the week we installed a bath lift
at his Surrey home today enabling John to safely use the bath without help from
other people. We are also contacting John’s local council to get a few
improvements made to his home including smoke alarms and some much needed
redecoration.

John is delighted with the help we have given him and was surprised at how
quickly it has happened. “That which is delivered tomorrow has the biggest
impact”

We are in need of donations to enable us to help more Veterans like John. You
can make a donation or set up a monthly direct debit for a few pounds at www.justgiving.com/theveteranscharity
